Envision New York’s first Buddhist temple Painting Exhibition

American Chinese Network reporter Gu Gongkun reports:Chinese Painting Buddhist temple in Flushing, New York, the first exhibition opened today. As the name suggests, this exhibition Zen theme exhibition artists are Buddhist, if you are looking for a tranquil mood, may wish to look at this exhibition.

China Zen Art Academy was established in Hong Kong, aims to promote Chinese Buddhist temple painting career. The exhibition came to New York in the hope that will contain a “Zen” This oriental philosophy introduced to the art of calligraphy and Western audiences.

The exhibition will feature academy where 20 painters 44 pieces of calligraphy and paintings. Works mostly Chinese traditional ink painting, there are a blend of Western and Oriental ink paint works. Work styles or delicate or bold. Themes are mostly landscape flowers; But whether ravines trickle, pines fresh bamboo, or snowy night villages, bridges, all the works are exhibited by the mood of tranquility exude. Just like the snowy night village depicted by the painter, can faintly see  people returning home at night. The artistic conception of "Chaimen smells the bark of the dog, wind and snow returns to the night" as depicted in the Tang poem the mood suddenly vividly paper.

美国中文网记者顾功坤报道：中国禅林画院纽约首展今天在法拉盛拉开帷幕。顾名思义，这个画展以禅宗为主题，参展画家都是居士，如果您正在寻求一份恬淡的心情，不妨去这个画展看看。

中国禅林画院成立于香港，旨在弘扬中国禅林书画事业。这次来到纽约展览，是希望将蕴含着“禅”这种东方哲学的书画艺术介绍给西方的观众。

这次展览共展出画院里20位画家的44幅书画作品。作品大多是中国传统水墨画，也有融合了西方油彩和东方水墨的作品。作品风格或细腻或粗犷。主题多为山水花鸟；不过无论是山壑细流，苍松劲竹，还是雪夜村落，小桥流水，所有作品所呈现出的意境都宁静幽远。就像画家笔下的雪夜深村，依稀还能看见夜归人，唐诗中所描绘的“柴门闻犬吠，风雪夜归人”的意境一下子就跃然纸张。

常以笔墨弘佛法 ——我所认识的中国禅林画院副院长、著名“画僧”古一雄.

画僧，顾名思义即僧人画家。他们都具有双重身份。首先是僧人，其次是画家。翻开中国美术史我们不难发现，几乎历朝历代都有画僧，而且多有建树，为我国绘画艺术的发展做出过巨大的贡献。无论是五代的贯休、巨然，南宋的牧溪，还是清代的“四僧”，以及近代的莲溪、弘一等等，他们不仅在绘画艺术上形成了自己独特的风格，而且开宗立派，弘扬佛法，深深地影响了中国绘画艺术的发展。
我所认识的“画僧”鹏古，号古一雄；从严格的意义上说应当称作居士。因为看他衣着打扮，听他谈经论禅，虽为佛家模样，但他至今并未正式出家，是一位护法居士。他从联合大学艺术系毕业后，不仅没有隐居山林，反而一步步挺进繁华。先是从陕西的黄土高坡移居至改革开放的深圳，在那里“面壁修行”，十年破壁，与香港佛家居士李智隆（笨塗）联手创办了中国禅林画院，团结了一大批有影响力的佛教居士画家，还一手创办了中国禅林画院网站，展现禅林画家的风采，弘扬佛法。2009年，他又为传播禅林文化，义无反顾地像玄奘一般背负40幅禅林画卷，独自一人离开东土远赴美国，在纽约举办了首届中国禅林书画展。得到海外华人的广泛关注，在打开国际视野的同时，决定拓展画院的海外艺术推广和国际影响，从此活跃于中西文化交流当中。并拜在大德高僧妙峰长老门下研修佛法。由于佛缘深厚，艺术有成，在那里已是生根开花。真可谓“不是僧人胜似僧人”。
就我所知，佛教的住世，正是以僧人为骨干的，其弘法利生的事业包含了大量具体、细致的工作。这里需要的便是献身精神与实际操作的才干。而其目的不外乎“能令众生获得究竟圆满之解脱”。所谓“以出世之精神，做入世之事业”。这是僧人的本分和佛陀的本怀。鹏古正是这样的执着践行者。这便是我认识其“僧”的一面。
另一面便是其“画”。我第一次看到鹏古的画，是在2003年的9月。那是我们一起去日本名古屋举办纪念日中邦交正常化30周年书画展的时候。在那次书画展上，鹏古先生展出的是一幅泼墨山水画——《壶口瀑布印象》。整幅作品以激烈动荡的构图、驰骋放逸的笔法和浑厚的墨韵，营造出壶口瀑布的宏大场景，借黄河的气势和力量展现了中华民族坚强不屈的奋发精神和大无畏的气概，表达了对大自然的热情讴歌和对母亲河的无限崇敬。许多日本观众在画前久久伫立凝视，为画作摄人心魄而击节叫好。此情此景给我留下深刻的印象。
此后不久，我又在日本出版的《水墨之友》书画刊物上见到过鹏古近年来关于岭南风情的画作。这些作品同三年前的作品比较，风格已经有了明显的变化。先生一改率意、大写的笔法，尝试着把西洋画的透视和明暗处理等技法用运到国画中来，以细腻的笔法和明快的色彩，表达了对岭南山水的挚爱，特别是对岭南农村的一往深情和对劳动者生活的关注。这种变化说明先生正用全新的绘画语言适应岭南山水的特色，也证明鹏古已经把“参禅”与绘画联系在一起，崇拜自然，师法自然，并以“源于生活，高于生活”的精神，塑造天地万物。此时的作品多了自然天真、淡泊宁静，少了凡尘世俗的束缚，在求艺的道路上又攀登上了一个新的高峰。

September 2003, Yi-Xiong Gu Japan Cultural Association was invited to Japan to hold exhibitions. Works by the Japanese friends collection and praise.

Gu, Yi-Xiong , He then received several other awards in China. At the Beijing People's Hall, he received the name of the "Ten Best Moral & Art Model“ from the Moral Model Meeting of China Organizing Committee. He also received from the Traditional Culture Promoting Project of China the award of "Traditional Culture Promoting Project of China Outstanding Award." China Cultural Information Association and China Cultural United Publishing Company awarded him the name of "Master of the Time”, in 2008.
